Item № 715MJ1
Lapis Bleu, Genuine Lapis Lazuli
15-17 inches in length, this beautiful beaded lapis choker is constructed of over 150 2 millimeter genuine lapis beads from Afghanistan, featuring a sterling silver Scallop Shell (.75 inches). The reverse side of the Scallop Shell is an image of St. James: St. James was fisherman on a journey, the symbolism of the scallop shell is both physical and spiritual. On his journey he learned how to live an authentic, genuine and peaceful life and he shared this with others. Pilgrims share a similar journey today, when an individual wears this shell it represents a personal journey, it reminds us of our purpose and brings us to our centre. The Scallop Shell has grooved lines leading from the outer rims to a center meeting point at the base of the shell. It represents a myriad of different spiritual, religious and humanist pathways all leading to the universal centre, the soul.
Afghanistan has mined authentic lapis from 6000 BC, which was used in jewelry in Egypt, Africa and Europe. Up until the 1800s, the color of Mary, true blue, was all but impossible to find in paint or pigment form. It represented holiness, truth, kindness and was the highest-esteemed color, above gold, until the early 1800s, when it was artificially replicated. Lapis, in the Bible, was also referred to as Sapphire, but in true teachings, this mystical rock and color was lapis lazuli. This dainty chain (adjustable 2 inches) can be worn alone or with your favorite Trésor Bleu piece.
