Trésor Bleu Exclusive
Origin: Lourdes, France c. 1898 (Antique: over 100 years old)
Rare early medal of Lourdes made in the "Miraculous Medal" tradition in the 19th century. This is a Medal of Pilgrimage prior to the classic profiles of Mary we see in later years. This medal's design has a more traditional "Miraculous Medal" look to it, with gorgeous open work surround. This medal in sterling silver is in pristine vintage condition with an Sr de LOURDES (or Souvenir de Lourdes) engraved on reverse. It hangs from a genuine, flat freshwater pearl, 8mm in diameter.
The apparition at Lourdes, occurred in 1858 with Saint Bernadette as the 14 year old witness. This medal is .65 inches in diameter. The medal was sold and blessed in 1910, approximately. 17 inch center-opening chain with pearl drop. Chain made in Italy.
Trésors blue are tiny pieces of French art and devotion. Also known as "Médailles De Pelerinage" or "Medals of Pilgrimage," these little medals have had voyages from another generation, another life, another country. People of faith still undertake pilgrimages as a way of deepening their religious devotion, seeking miracles, spiritual healing, forgiveness, or for the journey itself. The experience is not solely about reaching the end, it is about what is endured, enjoyed, and learned along the way.
