Du Champ Des Martyrs Necklace
Item no. LS04229
Trésor Bleu Exclusive - Rare
Medal origin: France, c. 1948, Commemorating 1944 WWII event
This stunning 1.2 inch wide and tall cross pendant is a perfectly-preserved silver image of Mary comforting Jesus. On the reverse reads, "Souvenir Du Champ Des Martyrs," translated, "Remember the Field of Martyrs." Located about 15 miles west of Limoges, in the central west of France, Oradour-sur-Glane has been forever immortalized for one fateful day in its history: June 10, 1944. On that Saturday, four days after the D-Day invasion, its 642 residents were – there is no other way to put it – massacred by the Nazis. And from that day forward Oradour has been known as Le Village des Martyrs (The Martyrs’ Village). On a separated, smaller medal, St. Christopher is in stunning tones of blue, aqua, and cobalt. The chain is a sturdy, 925 silver, alternating bar and rope design, 1.1mm thick, with a lobster clasp and is 17 inches long. An elegant, vintage, understated, timeless piece.
