Trésor Bleu Exclusive - Rare

Origin:  Domremy France, 1909 (Large Joan of Arc Medal); France, 1950 (small Sacre-Cœur pendant)

RARE, one-of-a-kind

Beautifully preserved, large medal of Joan of Arc, with four leaves of a perfectly symetrical 1.1 inch in diameter.  The four leaf clover is one of the most common good luck symbols in the Catholic faith, predating its more common connection to Irish heritage. The four leaves represent hope, faith, love and luck.  Catholic legend tells the story that Eve brought a four leaf clover with her when she was expelled from Paradise.  Anyone lucky enough to be in possession of four leaf clovers has consequently a piece of the blessed Paradise.

The original stone is unknown; it has been replaced by a round lapis lazuli bead.  Joan of Arc, a peasant girl living in medieval France, believed that God had chosen her to lead France to victory in its long-running war with England. With no military training, Joan convinced the embattled crown prince Charles of Valois to allow her to lead a French army to the besieged city of Orléans, where it achieved a momentous victory over the English and their French allies, the Burgundians. After seeing the prince crowned King Charles VII, Joan was captured by Anglo-Burgundian forces, tried for witchcraft and heresy and burned at the stake in 1431, at the age of only 19.  By the time she was officially canonized in 1920, the Maid of Orléans (as she was known) had long been considered one of history’s greatest saints, and an enduring symbol of French unity and nationalism.  The unique medal is paired with a second, smaller medal, a blue hexagonal Saint Christopher.   It's a petite 5 mm in diameter, well-preserved medal, c. 1958.

Both medals are set on a drop cross connector (.5 inches long), on a sturdy center-opening box chain that adjusts from choker (15 inches) to 28 inches not including pendant.  Tiny unique Sacred Heart Medal accents the piece.

Trésors blue are pieces of French art and devotion.  Also known as "Médailles De Pelerinage" or "Medals of Pilgrimage," these medals have had voyages from another generation, another life, another country.  People of faith still undertake pilgrimages as a way of deepening their religious devotion, seeking miracles, spiritual healing, forgiveness, or for the journey itself.  The experience is not solely about reaching the end, it is about what is endured, enjoyed, and learned along the way.
