Médaille de Notre Dame Necklace
Item no. 625MSS9
Origin: Lourdes France, c. 1958- 100th Anniversary of the Apparition
Well-preserved classic octagon shape 825 silver (French standard) medal. On the front is a relief profile of Our Lady, blessed Virgin Mary in gorgeous tones of teal and deep cobalt blue. The reverse is a well-preserved image of the Apparition at Lourdes. The first of these is the apparition of 11 February 1858, when Bernadette Soubirous, a 14-year-old peasant girl, admitted to her mother that a "lady" spoke to her in the cave of Massabielle (a mile from the town) while she was gathering firewood with her sister and a friend. 1958 was the 100th anniversary of the Apparitions at Lourdes, and this medal was received, blessed, and gifted that year, 60 years ago. Pendant is .5 inches in height and in width. Has a .4 inch Celtic filigree inspired drop. It hangs on an adjustable silver chain, can be worn as a choker or extend up to 24 inches long. Chain made in Italy. See pictures for size references.
Trésors blue are beautiful pieces of French art and devotion. Also known as "Médailles De Pelerinage" or "Medals of Pilgrimage," these little medals have had voyages from another generation, another life, another country. The deep "ultramarine" blue is the sacred color of Mary, representing truth, hope, and faith since 200 AD.
People of faith still undertake pilgrimages as a way of deepening their religious devotion, seeking miracles, spiritual healing, forgiveness, or for the journey itself. The experience is not solely about reaching the end, it is about what is endured, enjoyed, and learned along the way.
All trésors bleu are pre-packaged for gifting.
