Item № 1101-83MS
Trésor Bleu Exclusive
France, c. 1958 - 100th Anniversary of the Apparition
Well-preserved circular 825 silver (French standard) medal. .55 inches in diameter bright, rich bleu/blue relief medal from 1958, the 100th Anniversary of the Apparition to St. Bernadette at Lourdes. Our Lady of Lourdes is the Catholic title of the Blessed Virgin Mary venerated in honor of the Marian apparitions in 1858 near Lourdes, France. The first of these is the apparition of 11 February 1858, when Bernadette Soubirous, a 14-year-old peasant girl, admitted to her mother that a "lady" spoke to her in the cave of Massabielle while she was gathering firewood with her sister and a friend. One side is the Apparition, and the other side a relief profile image of Mary in two tones of cobalt blue. This medal was received, blessed, and gifted that year, 60 years ago. Chain is a sturdy 925 sterling chain, adjustable, with a 1 inch drop including 2 bicone beads and a genuine 2mm freshwater pearl.
Also known as "Médailles De Pèlerinage" or "Medals of Pilgrimage," these medals have had voyages from another generation, another life, another country. The deep ultramarine blue is the sacred color of Mary, representing truth, hope, and faith since 200 AD. People of faith still undertake pilgrimages as a way of deepening their religious devotion, seeking miracles, spiritual healing, forgiveness, or for the journey itself. The experience is not solely about reaching the end, it is about what is endured, enjoyed, and learned along the way.
