Gloire Aux Serbes (Glory to the Serbs) is a reproduction medal issued by France, 1916. This medal was issued by France on Serbia Day, 25 June 1916, to help raise funds for Serbian refugees. The battles fought in Serbia in 1915 saw the Serbian army and civilians being forced across the borders into the mountains by Bulgarian, Austro-Hugarian and German forces. This resulted in thousands of deaths due to starvation and intense winter conditions. Image on front features a woman carrying child followed by a soldier holding a rifle; below engraved, "GLOIRE AUX SERBES" (Glory to the Serbs). The reverse features the date "1916" above the arms of the Republic of France and the Kingdom of Serbia resting on a laurel wreath.
Paired with a vintage Joan of Arc Medaille, c. 1955, .25 inches in diameter.
