Medal of Pilgrimage from Our Lady of La Salute
Item № C100.104
Unique and rare medal from Our Lady of La Salut, with a stamped engraving on reverse. Santa Maria della Salute (English: Saint Mary of Health), commonly known simply as the Salute, is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica located at Punta della Dogana in the Dorsoduro sestiere of the city of Venice, Italy. In 1630, Venice experienced an unusually devastating outbreak of the plague. As a votive offering for the city's deliverance from the pestilence, the Republic of Venice vowed to build and dedicate a church to Our Lady of Health (or of Deliverance, Italian: Salute). This medal is 825 silver. The medal was procured and blessed at La Salut in the early 20th century, between WWI and WWII. Truly a keepsake of faith and history. The medal is .7 inches in height, .7 inches wide. It hangs from a fifteen inch on-trend silver toggle choker. This Italian authentic medal creates a wonderful juxtaposition of the old and new, and a beautiful representation of faith and history.
