Something Old, Something Bleu Pendant Necklace
Item no. MS02215
Trésor Bleu Exclusive
France, 1912 (large wedding medal); France c. 1958 (Guilloche blue bird)
At the turn of the century in France, it was customary to give medals for all Catholic Sacraments, including Marriage. This gorgeous medal is .9 inches wide and depicts an image of man and wife on one side, and relief message "Souvenir de Marriage" (Souvenir of Marriage), with the hand-engraved date, "12 de janvier," or the 12 of January, 1912. Perfectly preserved Antique, 111 years young. This pendant is accented by a smaller guilloche bird from a vintage French bracelet in "that blue," the color of Mary. According to Matthew 3:16, during the Baptism of Jesus the Holy Spirit descended like a dove and came to rest on Jesus. For this reason the dove has become an everlasting symbol of the Holy Spirit.
Both pendants are set on an 15-28" inch box chain, 925 silver, adjustable from choker 15" to longer necklace, 28". Our most popular and versatile chain. Including the filigree drop, pendant hangs 3 inches.
This necklace would make a perfect bridal gift to wear on a wedding day, as it not only is a marriage medal, but is something old (1912), something new (the silver chain), something borrowed (it originally belonged to a couple married in 1912) and something blue (the vintage dove).
