Well-preserved classic hexagon shape 825 silver (French standard) medal with hand-engraving of the apparition anniversary dates on reverse. .8 inches in diameter (size of a dime) 825 sterling silver relief medal from 1958, the 100th Anniversary of the Apparition to St. Bernadette at Lourdes. Our Lady of Lourdes is the Catholic title of the Blessed Virgin Mary venerated in honor of the Marian apparitions in 1858 near Lourdes, France. The first of these is the apparition of 11 February 1858, when Bernadette Soubirous, a 14-year-old peasant girl, admitted to her mother that a "lady" spoke to her in the cave of Massabielle (a mile from the town) while she was gathering firewood with her sister and a friend.One side is engraved the 100th Anniversary of Lourdes 1858-1958 in French, the other side a relief image Notre Dame de Lourdes, Our Lady, a profile image of Mary in two tones of cobalt blue. 1958 was the 100th anniversary of the Apparitions at Lourdes, and this medal was received, blessed, and gifted that year, 60 years ago.
Pendant is set with a drop round pendant accent, 1.5 inches long, 925 sterling silver. Chain is 925 sterling and is adjustable.
