Item No. L2S04141

Trésor Bleu Exclusive

Origin:  Domremy France, 1909 (Large Joan of Arc Medal); France, 1950 (tiny St. Christopher hexagon Medal)

RARE, one-of-a-kind

Beautifully preserved, large medal of Joan of Arc, 1 inch in diameter.  On the front is Joan of Arc in profile, with the dates 1412-1431 (her lifespan), in addition to the date 1909 commemorating the year this medal was first blessed and made.   On the reverse is Joan of Arc's family home, surrounded by trees, in Domremy, France.   Joan of Arc, a peasant girl living in medieval France, believed that God had chosen her to lead France to victory in its long-running war with England. With no military training, Joan convinced the embattled crown prince Charles of Valois to allow her to lead a French army to the besieged city of Orléans, where it achieved a momentous victory over the English and their French allies, the Burgundians. After seeing the prince crowned King Charles VII, Joan was captured by Anglo-Burgundian forces, tried for witchcraft and heresy and burned at the stake in 1431, at the age of only 19.  By the time she was officially canonized in 1920, the Maid of Orléans (as she was known) had long been considered one of history’s greatest saints, and an enduring symbol of French unity and nationalism.  The unique medal is paired with a second, smaller medal, a blue hexagonal Saint Christopher.   It's a petite 5 mm in diameter, well-preserved medal, c. 1958.

Both medals are set on a drop filigree connector (.5 inches long), on a sturdy beaded pewter chain, 19 inches long.

Trésors blue are pieces of French art and devotion.  Also known as "Médailles De Pelerinage" or "Medals of Pilgrimage," these medals have had voyages from another generation, another life, another country.  People of faith still undertake pilgrimages as a way of deepening their religious devotion, seeking miracles, spiritual healing, forgiveness, or for the journey itself.  The experience is not solely about reaching the end, it is about what is endured, enjoyed, and learned along the way.

All trésors bleu are pre-packaged for gifting.
