About the size of a quarter, with a 20 inch gold chain, 14/20 filled. Our Lady of Lourdes is the Catholic title of the Blessed Virgin Mary venerated in honor of the Marian apparitions in 1858 near Lourdes, France. The first of these is the apparition was February 11, 1858, when Bernadette Soubirous, a 14-year-old peasant girl, admitted to her mother that a "lady" spoke to her in the cave of Massabielle while she was gathering firewood with her sister and a friend. One side is the Apparition, and the other side a relief profile image of Mary in two tones of cobalt blue. This medal was received, blessed, and gifted that year, 60 years ago. Chain is a sturdy 925 sterling chain, adjustable fully adjustable.
Also known as "Médailles De Pèlerinage" or "Medals of Pilgrimage," these medals have had voyages from another generation, another life, another country. The deep ultramarine blue is the sacred color of Mary, representing truth, hope, and faith since 200 AD. People of faith still undertake pilgrimages as a way of deepening their religious devotion, seeking miracles, spiritual healing, forgiveness, or for the journey itself. The experience is not solely about reaching the end, it is about what is endured, enjoyed, and learned along the way.
