Our Lady of Beauraing Brooch- 1935
Item № BT100.113
Origin: Belgium, c. 1935
Unique and rare vintage devotional brooch from pre WWII Belgium in brass with openwork surround. This piece has had years of wear, years of prayer. It epitomizes the post WWI era with its design. The image of Our Lady is on a print on wood (we believe) but still in great condition. Reverse has classic c-ring pin connector. Measures 1.3 inches in diameter.
Our Lady of Beauraing (also known as the Virgin of the Golden Heart) is the title of 33 Marian apparitions reported in Beauraing, Belgium, between November 1932 and January 1933 by five children whose ages ranged between 9 and 15. For several years after the apparitions, pilgrims flocked to the small town of Beauraing, province of Namur (Belgium), and many cures were claimed. She is celebrated under this title on 29 November. This beautiful brooch was created as a pilgrimage memento from those years following the apparitions and is in the style of the late 30s era. A beautiful piece of faith and history.
